#ShopFallRiver

Late last night I thought of something. It's common to talk about negative aspects of things and not the positive, especially on social media. No one tweets about how much they love their cable company, but about what's wrong with it instead. I don't like that, putting out negativity only attracts more negativity. Spreading negativity about Fall River is the same thing.

What am I getting at?

There are many local businesses in the city that can be harmed by the negativity that is spread throughout social media. I want that to change.

#ShopFallRiver is a campaign we're launching to share all of the amazing businesses in the city. All the time people post their food and new things on social media, next time you do it in Fall River add "#ShopFallRiver."

When am I going to post this? More than you would think!
If you get a hair cut in Fall River post a selfie! "New hair cut #ShopFallRiver," or maybe you get your car fixed in the city and post the finished product on Instagram, add the hashtag. Possibly you're out to eat at one of the many restaurants in the city, and out comes your delicious dessert, post it, #ShopFallRiver!

Let's keep Fall River working and Shop Fall River.

Local Music - Moment of Clarity

Local music is a big piece in art around the city, and there are many talented artists and bands in and around Fall River. Moment of Clarity is a band from Fall River, made up of mostly teenagers in high school.
Personally I strongly support young adults and children participating in something that they're very passionate about, like Moment of Clarity is about music. Supporting these musicians, and others, is a key ingredient to the success of art and music. Moment of Clarity is just one band performing in the Holiday Band Bash on December 13th, Admission is only $10, and the doors open at 5:30. So come by the Eagle (35 North Main Street, Fall River, Massachusetts) to check out Moment of Clarity, along with Always August, Tolerance For Failure, Milo Bigwig, and Bochek.

Present Crunch Time

It's December 1st! That means crunch time for Christmas presents, unfortunately you're probably a little too old for hug coupons, but that doesn't always mean you have a bunch of money for presents. So here are some ideas for presents that don't completely hurt your wallet.

My personal favorite is the sibling (or cousin, partner, etc.) photos! The best part about these is you only have to spend the money once, on the photo session, and you can gift it a few times! (Mom, Dad, Grandparents) it's a great gift idea! You could even get some pictures frames at the dollar store to save even more money!

Other easy things to do is candles and candy! Especially if you know where to shop for these things! Creating a little winter kit for friends is another easy idea: buy some hot cocoa, put a packet of the mix in each kit, some gloves (which you can get for as little as a dollar), a candle or two, maybe some  hand lotion and sanitizer! Buying packages of 2 or 3 will help create these little kits for a cheaper price! You can always add a little something extra if you have a little bit more money, like tissues, and a book!

Other ideas to not spend too much money would be an iTunes gift card (for something as little as $10) then just to make it look like you spent a little extra money add a chocolate santa! Or if you're shopping for a girl, some nail polish!

Do remember that the holidays are not all about gifts, they are about spending time with the ones you love! Be thankful for the ones you have. Please join Fall River and celebrate the 30th annual Children's Holiday Parade!

Local Music

One thing I find really important is supporting local music, especially when that music is coming from a kid, or young adult. Toska is just one musician in the area, instead of taking drugs or drinking alcohol he is working on music. Toska is a hip hop artist, and personally not taking drugs or drinking is something I find quite special, finding teenagers that don't do drugs can sometimes be a rare thing. Those that have special talents should be shared with the community and those surrounding it.

Toska is releasing his next mix-tape, Futile Endeavors, on December 6th. Futile Endeavors can be found online and hard copies will be distributed at locations which he will tweet! To find those locations find him on twitter @ToxGoonWoof , so be on the lookout for that!

My personal favorite song from this mix-tape is "Undead Dances" which he performed at the South Coast Talent Search this summer, put on by Fun 107 and WSAR, along with many other local sponsors. Which is just one way he is getting out in the community.

Toska is also working on an EP along with Futile Endeavors. The EP is titled Survival and Other Vices and "Gadzooks!" Toska's most famous song will be on it, be on the lookout for that too!

#FallRiverProud

Too often people knock down where they are from. Not just Fall River, everywhere.
When people only talk about the bad it's hard to forget about the good, and it doesn't help create a better environment.
AHA is just one positive thing about our city, Thursday, December 18th, is the next AHA night by the way! So many people get involved to do something for the city.
Fall River is also full of entrepreneurs. If you like businesses or not, you need them to supply jobs. I can name just a few examples but it does not stop there.
Carl's Collision Center on Bay Street in Fall River has at least 60 people working, for a small business that is a lot of people and really impacts the city in a positive way.
Just because a company does not have dozens of people working for them does not mean they aren't helping. Every little bit counts.
Spending money in Fall River helps the city as well if you use a local Pharmacy, or shop in local stores. Restaurants Fall River has plenty of, eating out in Fall River instead of leaving the city helps those companies thrive, and could eventually supply more jobs.
All negative talk does is attract negative behavior, and it is so much easier to knock something down than build it up. Do something positive, and get involved. Shop locally, donate to Fall River causes (if you can), but most importantly stop putting Fall River in a negative light. Even if you personally cannot find one thing you like, just stop talking about it, and that can help.

Welcome To Fall River Events

Fall River, Massachusetts, has a lot going on that you most likely don't know about. The Nagle Auditorium at Durfee High School almost always has something going on! There are also some fabulous places to check out, like the Lizzie Borden house and Battleship Cove.
We are starting this blog to talk about the cool stuff going on in the city, including some of our favorite places to eat and local businesses.
If there is a restaurant we should check out let us know about them. Support your local economy by shopping local.
